First off; this is not a list of ‘favorite books that I read that was published in 2006′, but it is a list of ‘my favorite books I read in 2006′.

It’s rather a shame really, that I’m not current with the Literature World of Wonder. But one can’t be current in all things. Life is too complex and too complicated to focus on one thing alone.

I’ve also thrown in a ‘least favorite’ category. Just to balance it out. (:

Good Omens (n) – Neil Gaiman & Terry Pratchett

A great collaboration of authors. Funny and thought provoking all blended together.

Me Talk Pretty One Day(e) – David Sedaris

David Sedaris is great a his self-deprecating sense of humor.

The Wooden Sea(n) – Jonathan Carroll

A fantastic story line. Totally unbeleivable and all-together convincing.

Don Quixote (n)- Miguel de Cervante

Old world satire that bowls you right over.

The Lies of Locke Lamora(n) – Scott Lynch

The funniest novel I’ve read.

 Winged Death(ss) – H.P. Lovecraft

The best short story I’ve ever read from Mr. Lovecraft. A total psychological nightmare.

How Tolkien Means(e) – Orson Scott Card

The essay that ‘taught’ me how to read again.

Chasm City(n) – Alastair Reynolds

The best SF I read this year. I loved the character ‘Tanner Mirabel’.

The Man in the High Castle(n) – Phillip K. Dick

The best Alternative History I’ve read.

A Game of Thrones(n)  & A Clash of Kings(n) – A Song of Ice and Fire, book 1 and 2)  – George R.R. Martin.

The best Fantasy series I’ve read since LOTR. Amazing. In fact, it’s better in many aspects.

Along the Scenic Route(ss) – Harlan Ellison

Horrible to read. Thank the sweet lord, I resisted the temptation to gauge out my eyes.

Bored of the Rings(n) – Harvard Lampoon

I’ve read better parodies in Mad Magazine.

So there we go. My feeble list. Have a good New Year everyone.
